iPhone Homeschooling – iBird Explorer 15

It’s a portable, interactive bird guide!  iBird Explorer 15 has information on 15 of the most popular birds in the United states.  Not all of them may be in your region (they are certainly not in mine), but there is still plenty of good stuff to sift through.

There are more specialized guides available, but they are not free.  So, if you are willing to spend a little more money, you can get birds in your region.  🙂

The home page offers an alphabetical list of the available birds:

Once you choose a bird, you have a variety of options.  It gives you the classification and a bit of information to begin with.

You can listen to the call:

You can identify the range of the bird:

And a link to its Birdipedia page!

Seriously, how cool is this?  Anytime you see a bird, you can immediately access all of the latest information on it.  An iPhone is definitely lighter and easier to carry than a bird guide, and who doesn’t always have their phone with them?  Another reason to love my iPhone and another way to make my homeschooling easier and more portable.  Hip, hip, hooray!

I love that! I have a book that isn’t always handy for identifying a certain species. So, that would be a very cool app to have for an ornithological session. Yup, that is very cool!
