Secret to Productivity?

I had a pretty amazing day today.  I am utterly exhausted, but I was so productive that I feel like one bad mamma jamma.

I managed to get some yoga time in before breakfast, do school with my kids, vacuum the downstairs (including the window sills), make two loaves of bread, scrub my kitchen down, wash and fold several loads of laundry, iron all of my skirts that are ready for a spring outing, and make dinner.

Why was this day different than any other?  What’s the big secret, you might ask?

I stayed off the damn interwebs, that’s what.  I checked in briefly as I ate my breakfast and had some coffee, and then I left it alone while making my morning productive.  I checked it again while I ate my lunch, and then I was off again.  I listened to music to help keep me motivated and I kept asking myself what else needed to be done and just DID IT.

Now, I am sure my mother (and certainly my grandmother) would have had an even more productive day because they are both always up at the crack of dawn and not addicted to the computer, but I am sooooo not a morning person and I love my online interactions, so some concessions have to be made.  I also realize it’s no secret that Facebook will suck your life away, but sometimes I forget.  I have to literally take a break and remember that life happens away from my laptop.  Some days I am so busy and on-the-go that I can’t be on Facebook much, and sometimes I am on for (what feels like) an entire day.

Stepping away to gain perspective is a beautiful thing.

I am going to try and keep this ball rolling because there are a bunch of things I want to get done this week, including getting back on track with our schedule.  It feels good!  So while I will be blogging more (I hope), I also want to stop wasting time online.  *ahem* Pinterest & Facebook, I am looking at you.  Or not.  Because duh, you waste too much of my time.

I’ve been neglecting you…

I have been a little neglectful over the last few days. I have been meaning to write…I even have some decent ideas for blog posts! Alas, real life has gotten in the way of me posting anything and that’s ok.

First, I had to finish this for my Moms’ Book Club on Monday night.

I had TWO months to read it, but I decided the weekend before would be enough time to tackle 677 pages of literature. And, you know, attend a Keepers at Home meeting, let my girls have a friend over for a sleepover, go to the library, get groceries, prepare for an art class…just a few things. I finished, but barely. I wrapped it up at 5:50 and walked out the door to our meeting at 6:00. 🙂

Then, I spent all day Tuesday working on this:

We have a special little friend who turned 4 and loves Angry Birds. I love to give homemade gifts and I have been wanting to make one of these anyway and I have a huge stash of yarn to use up; it was win-win.

But as you can see, these were two pretty big projects with tight deadlines. I am looking forward to a slower pace over the next few days, with time for Bible study tonight with my favorite ladies, and hopefully some runs. More on the running tomorrow.

New Blog, New Year!

Hello readers!

You used to receive these posts under “Golden Acorn Homeschool.”  As you can see, I have made the change to my blog that I have been wanting to make.  It feels wonderful!  Now I can use this forum to talk about all the aspects of my life, because no part of my life happens in a void.  Homeschooling affects everything I do, and the other things I do affect homeschooling.

I changed my name to “Gleams of Sunshine” which is a snippet from the book Jane Eyre.  I feel my life is filled with gleams of sunshine, especially lately.  I want to share those gleams with you.  Some might be successes, some might be failures…but I have learned so much in my failures.  I hope you will still want to take the journey with me.

New blog tomorrow about my weight loss journey so far..

With much love,

Becky
