Well, I am sure there are as many reasons for homeschooling as there are homeschoolers. We have chosen to homeschool to provide our children the best education possible and to promote a stronger family unit.
Our goal is to provide them with a top-notch education, while still allowing them the opportunity to be children. Imagination, creativity and play will be just as important as reading and math in our school. We will be very focused on classic, timeless literature (known as ‘Living Books’) with plenty of art and music to compliment the more academic subjects of math, English, science and social studies.
We are going to use the Charlotte Mason approach to leaning, with a dash of Waldorf thrown in for good measure, to provide the most versatile education possible; but one that allows the children to pursue areas of personal interest and help them maintain a love and excitement for learning.
Hello Mrs. Homeschool,
My name is Davina and I am a single mother of three beautiful boys. I don’t know how I wandered across your website, but it is wonderful. It has taken me almost 25 years to appreciate the value of an education and the reality of America. The American reality is that our educational system has softened and our children are not given the opportunity to be children. They are looked over and devalued because of their social or economic status. It is difficult for me for I have to rely on the public school system to educate my children because I cannot afford to privatize their education or home school. I am employed and currently a master’s student here in Virginia. And I feel as though the tools needed for our children to be successful have been taken away and traded for this modernized educational system that ultimately will leave them far far behind. But it is my responsibility as a mother and women to provide them with the best possible education of all; the ability to learn. I have to be able to give my children the tools they need to learn. I have to use the resources given in the public system and make it work. From PTA meetings, school visits (non-scheduled), homework assistance, conferences, tutoring and much more. So in short I want to say thank you. Thank you for affording me a lesson of opportunity and reminding me that we cannot depend on this modernized educational system. The opportunity lies in the knowledge I have acquired and will now put into good use. Davina
