It’s late July and that means one thing in the online world of homeschooling – blog and message board postings crammed full of planning for a new school year! They are all over wordpress, blogger, blogspot and even myspace. Goodness! All this talk of planning has me fired up to plan our [...]

We got our economic stimulus check yesterday and I took the opportunity to order the books and curriculum I need for next year. However, even though that money is a surprise bonus (and I easily could have gotten carried away), I stayed frugal and only ordered what I really needed. I really, really [...]

I don’t post very much about the work I do with Monkey. I do “teach” her, but she is three and I feel the majority of what she should be learning right now is simply imitative play. Her brain is working so hard to understand her world, I don’t need to bog her [...]

Here is the small conversation from this morning, as I walked upstairs to wake the kids-
Me: Good morning! Time to get up and get busy.
Diva: I am already up! I’m getting dressed now.
Monkey: Hi mommy!
Super-boy: *groan*
Me: Hi Monkey. Thank you Diva. C’mon Super-boy. We have Shakespeare today!
All: YAY!!!
And they come [...]

Doing this:
These are Monkey’s first beads, and I think her first time with more than pigtail braids. The irony of my three year old with my hair texture, asking for braids and beads and then sitting for nearly two hours while I do it, is not lost on me. Where is my almost five year [...]

I stumbled across a great new website today: Dositey. Lots of free math and language arts activities up to eighth grade! I was searching around for grammar ideas for second graders, and there it was!
After playing the contraction memory game a few times (I was testing it, ahem), I decided to make [...]

I run upstairs to use the bathroom this morning and find it occupied by one adorable little Monkey girl, who is happily singing The Wheels on the Bus to her Barbie doll.
“Monkey, are you finished yet? Mommy needs to use the potty.”
“No mommy, I have to poop. It’s a mama poop.”
“A ‘mama’ poop?”
“Yes. [...]

This is just a general update post. Nothing fancy or well thought out. No statements or deep thoughts. I am way, way too tired for deep thoughts anyway.
“School” is trucking right along as planned. We have fun, but busy mornings, followed by free afternoons outdoors just like Charlotte would have wanted [...]

Why is it that my 3 year uses the regular toilet 99% of the time with no issues, but when mommy is napping on the couch (Shh! I know, bad mommy! But Grandma is here too.) after a grueling 3 mile hike on the Underground Railroad today, Monkey decided to not only use [...]
