Henry and Mudge save the day

Super-boy is a reading fool this week. Ok, relatively speaking. He has read three books this week, and taken the quizzes over at Bookadventure.com. Yipee!!

I have finally found a series of books that he enjoys reading and are right at his level: Henry and Mudge by Cynthia Rylant.

They are perfect for him. He loves the stories and laughs his silly head off, and they are easy enough for him to read confidently, but still offer some words he has to work on here and there. Right now, since what *I* want is for him to enjoy reading, I feel like I struck gold. The library here has tons, and tons of them, so his new library card is a getting a workout as we searched online tonight for some books to place on hold.

We are about to start our “spring break” and my goal is for him to read one book each day and take the corresponding quiz. I also want him to work with his math flash cards and try to get those math facts memorized. He would be done with his math sheets soooooo much faster if he would just memorize them already.

I plan to do some spring cleaning, some painting of the house, and some yard work. Right now, our spring break is scheduled as one week, but I just might make it two. I love that I can do that.

OH! I just met the new youth pastor and his wife at church this morning (they are in the process of moving here from NY). Guess what? They homeschool! Yipee! I am so excited, and since I am about to launch my Mommies Bible Study/Small Group, it would be so great if she could join too. Life is good.

  1. WTG Superboy! It’s wonderful when they enjoy reading!!

Sounds like you are going to have a busy ’spring break’!

Hope your Mommies Bible Study/ Small Group goes well.

  2. YEAH!! GOOD JOB, SUPER-BOY!!
    Maddie enjoyed that series, too!!
Once he gets a little older (or more advanced with the reading), check out The Bailey School Kids….Maddie says they are awesome!! : )

  3. My 2nd graders are reading Henry and Mudge. They love them. They really are cute stories. I like Henry and Mudge Under the Yellow Moon. Henry and Mudge and the Careful Cousin is pretty cute (one of my reading group is currently working on that story).

  4. I love the Henry and Mudge books but Tink doesnt. I think I’ll try Peter in them and see if he’ll take ot them. Glad to hear superboy is hooked on reading!

  5. Glad he found some books that he enjoys reading!! Christopher loved those books also.

Now he prefers Captain Underpants or Super Diaper Baby.. *roll* Haha. But he will read those on his own for long periods of time so whatever works.

Right now we are alternating.. Mommy picks a book.. then he chooses one… So we just finished volume 2 of the spiderwick chronicles and now it’s his new Underpants book he got in his easter basket…. Then we will do volume 3 for the spiderwick.

Well at least until his April book report info arrives home so we know what genre we need to read next.
