Water Music

I am so proud at this very moment I am practically bursting. About 20 minutes ago, I asked the kids to come and clean up the playroom. As they were getting started, I asked them if they would like any music to clean by.

Diva piped right up and said : “Handel Water Music! Handel Water Music please.”

My 4 year old (nearly 5 year old, *sniff*) daughter just asked for a piece of classical music by name. A piece that we have only just begun to listen to as I just got the disc from the library. Name, and composer. I wanted to just scoop her up and smooch those sweet little cheeks right off.

It’s hard to imagine in this world of too much TV, too many video games, and not enough childhood, that I still have the power to make a difference in my children’s lives. Maybe being able to appreciate something like a piece of classical music doesn’t rate high on many people’s list of accomplishments. But, the fact that she asked for something to listen to besides ‘Hannah Montana’ might actually say more than people think. There is still a place in this world for fine, noble and beautiful things and ideas; if we take the time to appreciate them, if we make space for them in our busy lives, if we still attach value to them.

What are you teaching your kids to appreciate, make time for, and attach value to?

    YEAH, DIVA!!

Well, there is such an abundance of things I want to pass on to my children….I hope to teach them to value themselves, stand up for what they believe in, appreciate their own company, learn how to find anything….man, the list goes on and on.

Recently, we discussed inter-personal relationship problem solving.

Also, I can see the spark of loving to learn begining again….I LOVE that!! : )
