This is an excellent article that lets people know what it really going down. I especially enjoyed this section (mucho sarcasm on my part):
“A primary purpose of the educational system is to train school children in good citizenship, patriotism and loyalty to the state and the nation as a means of protecting the public welfare,” the judge wrote, quoting from a 1961 case on a similar issue.
Heil California!
The law in CA has been the same since the 1950’s and CA homeschoolers have been making themselves into private schools and enrolling their own children into the “school” for years, and years. Now, unless you have teaching credentials, be prepared to send your kids to a public school, a full time private school or hire a tutor. This ruling does not just apply to the Long children, but will be applied state wide.
What I do with my kids is not allowed. I have no teaching credentials. Literally thousands of homeschooling families in CA are teaching without “credentials” and are doing a damn sight better than the public schools. Credentials do not make good teachers or ensure a quality education. It blows my mind, seriously.
Arnold spoke out against the ruling today:
“Every California child deserves a quality education and parents should have the right to decide what’s best for their children,” the governor said in a statement. “Parents should not be penalized for acting in the best interests of their children’s education. This outrageous ruling must be overturned by the courts and if the courts don’t protect parents’ rights then, as elected officials, we will.”

I urge anyone who has not yet signed the HSLDA petition, to please do so at once!
A friend of mine in AZ with friends in the public school system has alerted me that lawmakers there are considering similar laws.

I did sign the petition earlier today. Glad that Arnold is addressing the issue so promptly. It is true that a piece of paper does not make anyone a good teacher. Just as some teachers should not be in charge of instructing a room full of children; some parents should not teach their own children.
Parents, like you Becky, that make sure their children receive a well rounded education in all areas are what homeschooling is all about. Some kids fall through the cracks in public schools; that’s sad but it is reality. Some parents fall through the cracks when home schooling; sad but true.
I don’t think the states have the right to outlaw homeschooling as an option. This could very well end up on the steps of the Supreme Court, US or State level, in the not to distant future. I pray that whatever justices hear and decide this case look at what is good for the masses and not just a few. Revoking a parental right is not best unless that child is being failed by home schooling in one form or another. And that needs to be reviewed on a case by case basis.
Hi! I posted an entry about this same topic. This could be more insiduous than it seems. I am glad that some others are taking it seriously.

Pierce vs. Society of Sisters in the 1920s..Supreme Court ruled parents have the right to determine their child’s education……….nuff said………….
