The AWANA Club!

Back in August, I heard about The AWANA Club via another homeschooling blog. I checked it out and discovered there were several local clubs in our area. After speaking to a few moms who were involved in it, I decided to sign the kids up. I was hoping that in addition to [...]

Christmas in September!

It’s like Homeschool Christmas at our house today. When the mailman came this afternoon, he left a box behind. I am expecting a package, so I got up to see if this was what I was waiting for. It wasn’t.
I had forgotten that my friend Heidi told me she was mailing me [...]

Privacy Concerns

I have read three posts just this week about privacy and blogging and I am taking them as a sign. I have removed my flickr account from my blog sidebar, made almost all of my flickr photos private, and I will no longer be using the kids’s names in blog posts.
It’s quite a tedious [...]

The Nice Matters Award!

Way back on September 3rd, I was given the “Nice Matters” award by Hadias at ‘A Day in the Life of…’. It has taken me forever to get this up and nominate some folks myself! So, here goes.

Winners of the “Nice Matters Award” are:
Ei over at Ei’s Eyes
Beth C. at Mostly an Optimist
Beth [...]

Games, games, games!

We played “rearrange connection” today for the first time. I have had the board and pieces ready for ages and we just haven’t gotten around to playing it. Super-boy and I played twice, since I won the first time, and he needed a chance to redeem himself. [...]

No more diapers for me!

I am so happy to announce that after 7 years, 8 months and 23 days, I am DONE with diapers. Monkey is finally potty trained, and trained earlier than her siblings. Woo hoo!
She is consistently using the potty all day for both activities, and she is now staying dry all night as well. [...]

A moment of academic drama!

I sent the kids (upon peril of loss of TV time for a week!) outside to play this afternoon. They got as far as the screen door and ran back screaming about a huge bug. Um…ok.
I grudgingly walk over to see what it is, and it looks just like a stink bug, [...]

Jenny Wren Arrives!

We finally finished our House Wren notebook pages! We begin reading about the Old Orchard Bully (aka the House Sparrow) next week and start notebooking that one as well.

We had a few bumps with this and started over completely at one point. And as we were finishing this morning Super-boy gave me total [...]

Virtual Frog Dissection and a Composer Study Gem

I found a few cool resources that I wanted to share. The first is a free CD-ROM for frog dissection. Students can perform a realistic dissection with a digital scalpel. Digital Frog Dissection also comes with teacher and student workbooks (PDF Format) which you can find here: frog dissection workbooks.
The other dandy [...]

I *heart* Charlotte Mason!

I am so happy with my little homeschooling life.
We are reading the best stories, honestly. This morning we read the story of ‘Diogenes the Wise Man’ from Fifty Famous Stories and it was really great, but the best part was Super-boy’s narration. He took some of his toys and acted [...]
