I have mentioned Librivox in some other places, but it’s worth mentioning again here. This is a FANTASTIC resource! Audio versions of books that are now in the public domain. What this means for homeschoolers, especially Charlotte Mason homeschoolers, is that you can buy yourself a little time and let someone else do the reading. However, some of the recordings are merely ‘ok.’ For instance I downloaded “Our Island Story” by HE Marshall, but I deleted it because I could not stand the readers voice, inflection or pace. By contrast however, “Tales from Shakespeare” is beautifully done, and by a reader with an English accent! I find that accent helpful in digesting Shakespeare.
So if you don’t know about Librivox, I suggest you go and check it out. There are so many books there that you can enjoy with your family at home, in the car, wherever you can play a CD or take your iPod.
