Staying flexible…

Just when I think I really have something concrete all laid out for this little home school, I find some new amazing resource that I think is simply marvelous! I am really enamored with Charlotte Mason at the moment. I am deep into Karen Andreola’s book “A Charlotte Mason Companion” and I have [...]

Fun in Silver Spring

We headed down to SS today to catch a $1 movie and play in the fountain at the town center.  The kids really enjoyed the movie “Everyone’s Hero” and I enjoyed the fact that I was free and their popcorn and sodas were also only $1.  Sweet!
We went with our friends Elizabeth, Isy & Tomas [...]

Yesterday’s ‘Academics’

Aside from poker playing, the kids did do a little “school” yesterday.  Cole did some math review and I introduced him to D’Nealian handwriting.  His handwriting is atrocious so he needs a lot of work on it.  But he is eager to learn cursive so I thought I would kill two birds with one stone [...]

Math?

The kids are playing ‘poker’ this afternoon.  I suspect I may not be one of those A+ mommies.    This is math though, right?  I am sure they are learning about statistics, probability and money management.  *giggles*

A first for me!

As I was washing towels this morning, something new and unexpected occurred. There was a spider in the towels. Ick. The thing is, I really HATE spiders, so I freaked out and tossed the towels, spider and all, into the washer and filled that sucker up with water as quickly as possible. [...]

Filling the summer days…

We have been busy, buzzy, bees the last few days. We celebrated the end of the reign of terror (aka the end of public school) on Friday with a trip to Chuck E Cheese. The kids had a great time and I got to catch up with a few friends.
Saturday we lazed about [...]

Go mama!

I have made some decisions this week that leave me feeling both nervous, and very empowered. First, which I mentioned in a previous blog, is that I have decided not to use an umbrella, and let the county review our progress. The other big decision I made this week was not to buy [...]

Family Night

In an effort to be more organized, I have created a dinner menu for the next two weeks. We get paid bi-weekly and so I do the bulk of my grocery shopping on paydays. I have dinner planned from yesterday, until June 27th. Sweet! I have decided that for our Friday [...]

We are DONE!

With public school that is. Cole finished his very last day at RCV yesterday, and we all heaved a collective sigh of relief. He is so worn out and frazzled, my poor boy. If it hadn’t been the last two weeks of school I would have just pulled him out right away, [...]

Dining Al Fresco

I had such a great time with the girls yesterday at Mommy & Me and I am just kicking myself in the butt for not bringing my camera! They made such cute little crafts and they were both dressed in these adorable yellow dresses. I had many photo ops that were lost. [...]
